The entire professional career of Zygmunt Bocheński was strictly connected with our institution where he was employed in 1959. 1979 to 1981 Deputy Director of the Institute. 1986 to 1987 Head of Department of Vertebrate Zoology. Retired in 2006.

1985-2007 Editor-in-chief of Acta Zoological Cracoviensia. Among founders of the Ornithological Section of Polish Zoological Society, 1974 to 1982 President of the Section's Kraków Division. Recipient of prizes Secretary of Polish Academy of Sciences. Awarded Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

Zygmunt Bocheński was active in different fields of ornithology, but his principal research interest has remained in avian paleontology. He issued above 170 publications, in this number 74 original scientific papers.
