HR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH

Otwarta NaukaIn May 2016 the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals Polish Academy of Sciences (ISEA PAS), as the first scientific institution in Krakow, received the prestigious Human Resources Excellence in Research award. The European Commission awards it as part of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, aimed at increasing the attractiveness of working conditions and career development of researchers in scientific institutions of the European Union. The award is acknowledged to institutions that strive to provide the best working conditions for scientists and conduct recruitment processes transparently and in accordance with the guidelines of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

The European Charter for Researchers comprises principles defining the roles, responsibilities, and rights of scientific employees, their employers, and research funders. Its aim is to ensure that relations between scientists and their employers promote effectiveness in the creation, transfer, exchange, and dissemination of knowledge and the career development of scientific employees.

The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers comprises general principles that employers and research funders should follow when recruiting researchers. These principles guarantee compliance with values such as transparency of the recruitment process and equal treatment of all candidates, taking into particular consideration the development of the European labour market for scientists.

Otwarta Nauka The Institute of Animal Systematics and Evolution of the PolishAcademy of Sciences, endorsementing and adopting the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, is constantly making efforts to ensure that the provided conditions for conducting scientific research are consistent with the quality measures required by European standards comprised in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Being awarded the distinction opens up the opportunity to apply for financial support for scientific projects in Polish and European competitions, which is already bear fruit in the form of granted projects, including the ERC and Polonez Bis grants.

Appointed as part of the Human Resources Excellence in Research award, the Team for the implementation of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers at ISEA PAS, constantly evaluates solutions and possibilities, adapting them to the rules currently in force in the European scientific community and the needs of its employees and potential future applicants. The result of the Team's work is several documents describing the Institute's strategy, developed following the acknowledgment of the Human Resources Excellence in Research award, which is periodically evaluated by the European Commission.

Documents comprising the strategy of ISEA PAS developed as part of the Human Resources Excellence in Research award
